“If you see their commercials on T.V. stay away from their policy!”
We all know that excessive advertisement is expensive and the Chicago Tribune reported that three of the nation’s biggest home and auto insurers grew their advertising spending a combined 6.2 percent in 2014. In dollar terms, Allstate led the way, spending $937.3 million. State Farm spent $843.9 million on advertising last year.
With all this spending on the front end on their commercials to lure you in and sell you a policy, when it comes down to paying your claim I believe most policyholders are so brainwashed with insurance company rhetoric they take their claim denial or underpayment softly and with some kind of weird “trust factor”.
So with that being said, I decided to create my “Top 10” of the homeowners insurance companies doing business in Texas based off my field experience to help potential consumers make the best purchasing decision possible accordingly to only one factor:
1) How well they actually pay claims when they are rightfully owed. (not considering the cost of premium or market share)
Everybody makes mistakes from time to time but trends are identifiable and the reasons for the denials that I have experienced in the field as a policyholder advocate seem to be consistent in making dollars for the carriers but no sense for the policyholders.
From Worst To First:
10. State Farm
4. Safeco/Liberty Mutual
2. Texas Farm Bureau
